  • Working together

Our space is created, used and mainted by members. If we don't have something we need, we just get together and make it happen. From a metal bandsaw to the laser cutter, it's all members making it work.

What Is Makerspace?

A Makerspace is a member operated shared space where people come together and collaborate while sharing tools, resources and knowledge. One tool can be effectively duplicated many times over by sharing it, in the same way that our learning experiences are shared.

When you walk into our Makerspace, your first thoughts may be, “Wow, I could make anything here, if only I knew how.”  Then after talking to a few people, you realize the vast amounts of experience and knowledge that exists.  Anything you would like to know about, someone has either done it or has a really good idea how to do it.  It soon becomes apparent that almost anything is possible.

What Can I Do?

The real question is “What do you want to do?”  Would you like to design a mechanical part or an organic model and print it using the 3d printer? Or laser cut acrylic, leather, wood, paper? Or etch circuit boards?

Maybe you would like to learn robotics or how to program a microprocessor? Really, there is no limit. If we don’t have it, help us get it going. If we have it, you are welcome to use it. Come check us out!

How Can I Get Involved?

The best way to start is to come by one of our open house events on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 pm.

New memberships, as a rule, are only processed on Tuesday nights at the open house. In special circumstances directors may make themselves available at other times to do so, but processing new membership applications only at the open house is strongly preferred.

We are located at: 4476 Markham St. (in the Vancouver Island Technology Park), in Saanich, BC

MakerspaceVR

Derek is in the midst of collecting interest in a dedicated virtual reality space, to be in the same building as Makerspace. Still in the early discussion stages, but if you'd like to be in on the discussion please email him at derekja@makerspace.ca

We were recently robbed!

It's upsetting to see a community organization robbed, and we'll lose some capability for a while since 3 welders were taken, but we're still going strong. This will be a wakeup call to treat our security a bit more carefully. If you could help us catch the individual it would be most appreciated! The document below has pictures of him, his truck, and the main welder that was taken.
